Cross-country skiing and snowshoeing are an enjoyable winter activity for the whole family. Rifle area volunteers work hard each winter to groom and maintain more than 25 miles of trails for snowmobiles, cross-country skiers, and individuals snowshoeing on the Flat Top Mountains. Parking is available right at the trailhead 12 miles up the Buford Road. Visit the information center in Rifle, Colorado for more information.

Sunlight Mountain Ski Resort is only a 40-minute drive from Rifle near Glenwood Springs, Colorado. Sunlight features 67 trails from the extreme Heathen trail, one of the steepest trails in Colorado, which plunges more than 50 degrees to Four-Mile Creek below. Sunlight is also home to one of the longest ski trails: Ute, a cruising beginner slope, which winds more than two-and-one-half miles from the summit to the base.

Rifle, Colorado is also within a one to two hour drive to Aspen, Snowmass, Vail, Beaver Creek, and Powderhorn ski resorts.
